RETURNING TO WA WITH THE SUNSET SESSIONS!
Electric | Dreamtime | Roots
OKA announce their return to WA this May for four very special shows. Embracing the future without losing sight of the past, OKA will draw upon their indigenous connection to place and country, bringing their signature feel good Australian earth sound to launch the release of their new album ‘The Sunset Sessions’.
Mixing an irresistible blend of influences spanning house, big beat, conscious roots, reggae-dub, jazz and world music, ‘The Sunset Sessions’ mark the release of OKA’s ninth album and features the amazing spoken word smith poet Michael St George.
OKA and Michael St George’s collaboration began after meeting in Canada during OKA’s 2017 annual Canadian tour. The Jamaican reggae musician otherwise known as The MSG (Motivating Sound Generator) is a writer, recording artist, educator and recognised leader in the world of dub performance. His conscious verse and fresh musical sound is dedicated to justice and social equity which has earned him international respect.
To truly understand OKA is to experience their high energy live show, a mashup of dance & down-tempo electro beats marinated in the mystical spirit of the Dreamtime. Their contagious on stage presence continues to bring joy to all exposed to their feel good energy and positive vibes.
Born from a street jam over 17 years ago, their sound echoes the voice of the people winning them a loyal following with audiences from all over the globe.
Independently selling over 170,000 albums, they have shared the stage alongside inspirational acts such as George Clinton, Arrested Development, Finnley Quay, Xavier Rudd, Rag ’n’ bone man and rising star Tash Sultana to name a few. While sharing the bill with the likes of Kiss, Santana, Sting, Burning Spear, Yothu Yindi, Beats Antiques, Fat Freddys Drop, Damian Marley and The Wailers.
At the creative heart of the music is Stu Boga Fergie (aka DidgeriSTU) the big man behind the electronic beats, keys & vocals inspired by his aboriginal & TSI heritage. With the deep resonance and pulse of the Yidaki (didgeridoo) he allows the heart beat of mother earth to flow through you, connecting you to culture and your own inner rhythm.
The OKA Collective also includes the captivating melody of Chris Lane on sax, flute & woodwinds woven through Julian Bel-bachir’s raw organic beats of deep tribal fire marinated in his African roots.
